Certified Doula (CD) through Doulas of North America (DONA)
Mary Beth grew up in the Midwest and has lived in the Washington DC Area for
nearly 20 years. She has enjoyed several careers prior to establishing
herself as a birth doula in 2002. Following the birth of her first son, Mary
Beth became increasingly interested in labor and delivery support. In
February 2002, Mary Beth trained with Brenda Lane, a DONA approved Doula
Trainer and a DONA certified Doula herself. Mary Beth is a certified birth
doula through Doulas of North America (DONA).
Mary Beth strongly believes that birth is a normal life event and every
birthing woman deserves a doula, regardless of choosing a natural or
medicated birth. She encourages women to trust in their body's ability to
birth their baby and empowers each woman to have their desired birth
experience.
Some of her favorite things about being a doula include:
- Working with the expectant partner to help them help their laboring
partner
- Trying new positions and helping find the most comfortable laboring
positions
- Assisting new mothers as they begin bonding through breastfeeding
- The never-ending joy of seeing a new baby being birthed into the world
- Recognizing that knowledge is power and providing information so parents can make the choices that are right for them and their baby.
Mary Beth is the mother of two active little boys.
